Finally, you have updated your smartphone with the latest Android version. However, there are a few things you should do to prepare your device to make it more convenient to use.

Android5

  1. Set up trusted Bluetooth devices: This feature will automatically unlock your Lollipop smartphone when a paired Bluetooth device is within range. This will be quite convenient when we use password or pattern locks to protect our devices. We could set up this functionality by going to Smart Lock>Trusted Devices and follow the steps to pair with smartphones, tablets or smartwatches.
  2. Set up Face Lock feature: Go to Security> Smart Lock> Trusted Face to enable Face Lock functionality. Follow steps to allow the phone to recognize your face. The device should be unlocked after it scans your face using the front-facing camera.
  3. Enable voice command: If your mobile device supports it, we could give commands verbally to it, even if the display isn’t turned on. We could enable the feature by going to Settings> Language and Input> Voice Input and tap the Enhanced Google Services and choose OK Google detection. Choose “When locked” to enable the feature even if the phone is locked and the display is turned off.
  4. Get yourself familiarized with the new lockscreen: The Android 5.0 Lollipop has a brand new lockscreen and notification panel. Both are main attractions of the new software version. Now, we can swipe notifications horizontally to dismiss them. We can also reply to email messages faster by swiping them down.
  5. Set priority on notifications: It should be noted that the Android 5.0 Lollipop no longer has the Silent Mode. Instead, we can now use the Priority Mode, which is more effective. Push down the volume button and a menu will be displayed with three options on them; none, priority and all. By choosing “None”, the device will simulate the silent mode. All incoming notifications will be received, but our devices will not make any sound. This is useful when we don’t want interruptions during meeting or sleep. We could use the Priority option to choose specific apps and features that can force notifications displayed on the display. This is useful if for example, we are waiting text messages or email from someone.
  6. Set up guest access: We may want to put a tablet in the living room, so we can share it with our friends and family. However, if we seek to maintain our privacy, it is a good idea to set up guest access. Even if we don’t have anything to hide from others, this feature still prevents our children from deleting important emails and text messages. We could enable the guest access by going to the Quick Settings interface. Swipe down from the top of the display twice and press the circular avatar on the right corner part of the interface and choose Guest. We could disable the Guest mode by repeating the same step, but we need to choose our own name, instead of Guest. To do this, we must use the pattern lock or type in the password.
  7. Set up Android Beam functionality: This feature has been available in previous Android version, but we need to set it up again after installing the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Android Beam is available for devices with NFC capability. It allows us to quickly share files with other NFC-capable devices. We could also exchange contact information, map directions and website bookmarks.
  8. Try hidden game: Each new Android version comes with hidden game and the Lollipop has a game that works like the Flappy Bird. Many people enjoy this kind of game and it is available inside Android 5.0. To open it, we should go to Settings > About phone and look for the Android version like. Tap on it quickly a few times to open the game. A large Lollipop image will appear on the display and to play the game, we need to tap the circle of the picture five times, followed by holding our finger on it. However, the small bird is replaced by an Android robot.
