The iPhone 6 Plus is Apple’s first attempt in the phablet market and it surely has some issues that need to be fixed.
- Fix size-related issues: Size does matter and Android users have been using phablets for years. However, Apple and its diehard fans never had the urge to go the same path. They prioritize on more compact design and one-handed operability. The iPhone 6 with its 4.7-inch display can still be operated with one hand, but the iPhone 6 Plus requires us to use a second hand. Apple has added the reachability feature in the iPhone 6 Plus, but it is still rather inadequately implemented. There should be a quicker way to disable and enable the feature without going into the Settings interface and users should be able to specify what objects that must be added. The enlarged dimension also affects the rigidity of the phone and we know that the iPhone 6 Plus is more susceptible to bending. Apple should do things to improve the strength of the design, so the phablet won’t bend even if we put it in tight pockets repeatedly.
- Lower the price: We all know that Apple have a huge profit margin for its device, but it should consider setting a limit on how much the iPhone 6 Plus should be priced. While Apple fans are hardly cheap, they could still look for options that are better economically. They would have no problems spending money for quality devices, but it doesn’t mean that Apple could set ridiculously high pricing. The iPhone 6 Plus is about $100 more expensive than the smaller iPhone 6. There’s nothing radically different when it comes to hardware specs, except for the much larger display. They use the same A8 processors with 64-bit support and a couple of cores clocked at 1.4GHz. Both also have 1GB of RAM. Apple could start by reducing the price of iPhone 6, while keeping the same $100 price difference with the iPhone 6 Plus.
- Improve the battery: The larger iPhone 6 Plus has bigger battery capacity, but it still has some issues with longevity. Larger 5.5-inch display with Retina resolution would require more battery power to operate. According to tests, the iPhone 6 with its 4.7-inch display could still operate longer than its larger sibling. Apple should try to maintain similar real battery life of its smartphone models in the future.
- Improve video quality: The iPhone 6 Plus seems to have lower video recording performance and it is likely due to stabilization issues. The smaller iPhone 6 offers better video quality, because it doesn’t have the same kind of problem. This could be a deal breaker for professionals who rely on their iPhone 6 to complement their full-fledged DSLRs.
- Improve application scaling: The iPhone 6 with its smaller display seems to render applications better. Apple has promised that it will fix scaling issues on its larger device. At the moment, many apps are already developed for the 5.5-inch display of the iPhone 6 Plus; but not all developers will do that. Apple should offer solutions to address the scaling issues.
